Hans Carlo Rivera
Hi, I’m Carlo!
Pronouns: he/him/his, they/them/theirs
A queer, non-binary second generation Filipino American with roots in Ilocos Norte, Pampanga, and Tarlac, I was born and raised in unceded Dogue and Piscataway land in what is now known as Northern Virginia. I’m pursuing a career in the field of global mental health research and advocacy with an emphasis on intergenerational trauma in displaced and migrant persons/families.
Currently, I am an MPH Candidate in the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2017 with a dual degree BS Psychology, BS Biochemistry and a minor in Chemistry. Broad research interests include finding and implementing equitable, community-based solutions toward increasing access to mental health services and examining cross-cultural approaches to the reduction and elimination of societal stigmas surrounding mental illness.
